This family includes many of the former Colostethus. These frogs lack the ability to sequester alkaloids, although some species, such as Aromobates nocturnus, appear to be noxious.

This genus is defined by the presence of a median lingual process. Other characteristics include cryptic coloration, webbed feet, finger I shorter than finger II, and lack of toxins. Distributed from the Pacific coast of Colombia to the Venezuelan tepuis.

The two species of this genus possess cryptic coloration and extensively webbed feet. It can be distinguished from Aromobates and Mannophryne by the absence of dorsolateral stripes and a dark throat patch, respectively. These frogs are distributed throughout the Cordillera Oriental of Colombia.

Distinguished by DNA sequences from other poison frog genera. Morphologically, these frogs possess a pale dorsolateral stripe and webbed feet. They are distributed throughout the Merida Andes of Venezuela and parts of Colombia.
